Forget cholesterol numbers, forget blood pressure, hormones, blood sugar, or any other markers used in your dr.’s office. It turns out the measurement most important to your health is the pH level of your blood and tissues. The pH level reflects how acidic or alkaline your blood is. While different areas of the body have different pH levels, the blood is the most telling of all when it comes to evaluating how healthy you are.
So, what is healthy? A state of health is more than the absence of disease. It has been defined by the WHO as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being – not merely the absence of disease or illness. Health is the overall balance between the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our being.
As for creating balance in the physical body, the blood must be kept in a very narrow pH range which is mildly basic or alkaline. The pH level of the blood and internal body fluids affect every cell within our bodies. All of the metabolic processes, chemical reactions by which living organisms transform chemical substances, depend on an alkaline environment. Chronic over-acidity corrodes body tissue, and if left unchecked will interrupt all cellular activities and functions from the beating of your heart to the neural firing of your brain. Being overly acidic interferes with life itself and is found at the root of all sickness and disease.
The universe operates by keeping opposites in balance. The universe contained within your body is no exception. When imbalance occurs, we get symptoms of disease: low energy, poor digestion, skin conditions, fatigue, excess weight, inflammation, foggy thinking, as well as major disorders. Over acidification of body fluids and tissues underlies all disease processes. The body is very vulnerable to germs when it is acidic. In an alkaline balance, germs cannot get a foothold. Good physical health requires a body to be in proper acid//base balance.
Common symptoms of the body being too acidic:
You are likely to experience a lot of fatigue; you may also have joint pain, headaches, chronic pain, or a stiff neck. You may suffer from digestive distress or irritable bowel. You may get sick frequently and have trouble healing open wounds. You are likely to feel an overall sense of sluggishness, and even depression at times. Many people whose bodies are too acidic also suffer from irritability and brain fog.
An optimal pH is crucial to one’s health, optimal pH being 7.36, which is just barely alkaline. You can test your saliva or urine with litmus test strips to get an idea of the overall pH level of your body. Test first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything. If your system is acidic, it is really important to take steps to alkalize.
Here are 15 ways you can begin to change the pH of your body and create a more balanced state of health.
- Start your day with a cup of warm water and fresh lemon juice.
- Drink alkaline water.
- Avoid highly acidic foods.
- Get some form of exercise or movement every day.
- Reduce your stress or your reaction to stressful situations.

We make choices every day that either contribute to our health and well-being or diminish it. The food we choose to eat plays a key role in our physical health. Add to that the thoughts we think, the beliefs we hold onto in our minds, the activities we engage in, and the people we associate with either contribute to our health or diminish it. Good health is not something that just happens to people. It is the product of conscious, deliberate choices that we make every day of our lives to create and maintain balance from the inside out, and that balance starts with the blood pH.
